Chatbowl

Summary

I worked with an early startup to design a product concept that is a mobile game show for blind dates. We based the concept on popular reality tv shows such as Love is Blind, The Bachelorette, and others. The concept is three couples are matched and able to chat via text feed and video for two weeks within the app.

The audience can watch and read their conversations and choose their favorite couple by contributing to the couple’s first date. The app is meant for entertainment purposes as the audience joins the couples on their journey to find love and win the grand prize of an all-expenses-paid first date.

The couple that raises the most money for their first date wins. The first date is recorded and produced for Chatbowl’s Youtube channel. The prize money is spent on the winners’ first date. Depending on the amount raised, the date activities can be modest or extravagant.

I designed the prototype using Figma and I designed their landing page website using Squarespace, with art from Shutterstock that I edited to fit the design style.

Prototype

I used Figma for the wireframes and prototype design. The collaborative feature made it easy to work with others and share the prototype with users to test and receive feedback.

Website Design

I went through multiple designs before settling with this modern abstract art look. The copy write took some iterations as well as I needed to get the essence of the product within a few lines and solve the common misconception that the product is a dating app.

The color theme is light and calming, we did not want to use colors or any branding that expresses love or dating because the startup’s plan is to scale beyond the dating game show and adopt other themes as well.

I enjoyed making the minimalist UI frames for a walkthrough flow of the product’s process. I used the Figma hi-fi screens and started by changing the color of the elements and ended up making completely new elements as inspiration took hold of me.

Reiterating the messaging along the page allows users to firmly understand the product. I added multiple buttons that all lead to the same signup form so as to always give the user the option at any point in the page. The main reason for this page is to express the concept and get users to signup for proof of concept.
